Many of us juggle demanding roles — cross-functional projects, senior stakeholders, tight deadlines — and the productivity method we choose can make or break how effective (and sane) our week feels.

Two popular approaches often come up:

      • To-do lists: Simple, flexible, easy to update on the fly. But they can become overwhelming when everything looks equally urgent, and they don’t account for how much time each task actually takes.
      • Time-blocking: Assigning specific chunks of your calendar to specific tasks. This forces realistic prioritization and protects focus time, but it requires discipline and can feel rigid when unexpected work comes up.

A hybrid that works well for many professionals: use a to-do list to capture everything, then time-block only the 3–5 highest-priority items each day, leaving buffer time for the unexpected.
